Cunnamulla P-12 State School operates with a teaching staff of 18 and 10 Teacher Aides, some of whom are in part time positions. Regular visiting teachers and support staff cover such areas as Instrumental Music, Guidance Counselling and School Nurse. Secondary Specialist teachers, e.g. Art, Physical Education, Home Economics and Industrial Technology and Design also fulfil some teaching duties in the Primary sector.
The teachers at the school are encouraged to build a strong caring relationship with their students.
We also challenge the teachers to be truly accountable for the outcomes of their students and examine these outcomes with a view to understand the real reasons behind student performance and adjust their teaching strategies accordingly. We ask them to ensure that every student in their class has a clear understanding of the challenges facing them and the opportunity to succeed in meeting those challenges at an appropriate level.
Accommodation for teachers is, in the main supplied by Education Queensland and a wide range of housing types are available: from 2-bedroom duplexes to 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom houses. This range caters for both families and single teachers. Some 15 residences are available on a sole (family) or multi (sharing) tenancy basis.
The remote location of the school in Queensland has placed it in zone 7, and this results in a remote area salary incentive for staff. The incentive includes a number of days for emergent leave and a higher number of transfer points when relocation is being planned. Many teachers are now extending their stay at the school as they discover the advantages of living in a bush town, with the average stay being longer than the once normal 2 year span.
